Public Works Department

The City’s Public Works Department is charged with the responsibility of maintaining all city roads, sidewalks and curbs, making minor repairs and maintenance to drainage facilities and canals, and maintaining all city parks, medians, seven baseball/soccer fields, shuffleboard, volleyball and tennis courts and other city facilities and buildings.

The personnel make-up consists of ten general maintenance workers with varying skills of carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrical, masonry, landscape planning and maintenance, and irrigation. This diversity brings great savings to the citizens of our community as they carry out repairs and care for both the interior and exterior of our City Hall, Fire Department, Police Department and Recreation Center and the public grounds throughout the City. The safe operation and minor repair of the City’s patrol vehicles, fire rescue apparatus, Public Works trucks and grounds keeping equipment is handled by our ASE certified automobile technician who has twenty plus years of experience. With the ability to make most service repairs “in house”, we are able to keep the rising cost of outsourcing such work down to a minimum, limiting the down time of disabled vehicles, thus keeping our City’s provision of services at its highest efficiency.

Besides all the aforementioned maintenance, an ongoing effort of beautification to our medians and various planters of the streets and boulevards can be seen throughout our city. Efforts are made to use a selection of trees, plants and shrubs that are native to the area and are drought tolerant. All of these efforts and hard work by the dedicated employees of Public Works are an attempt to bring beauty and pleasure to the citizens of our community, helping to ensure that living in Indian Harbour Beach is a truly pleasurable experience.
